Traditions and Holidays Unit 5
In this unit l learned three important topics that helps to me to increase my knowledge. The first topic is about holidays and Traditions in many countries. For example, I learned how do American people celebrate the Thanksgiving?. This holiday is celebrated in November 4th by Americans. In this day all families get together to have a picnic and thanks a God. The special food for this day is the turkey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving_%28United_States%29. Also, I learned about Mariachi Band holiday. Mariachi was originated in Mexico, Jalisco. They wear special cloth such as: a big hat, elegant suit, boats and each integrant with their instrument. They perform in weddings, holidays and restaurants. http://www.mexconnect.com/articles/1875-what-is-the-mariachi . Also, I learned Rio de Janeiro Carnaval. This holiday is very recognized around the world. People wear a costume. Also, I learned about the traditional Hanbok. This dress is used especially in a marriage. Woman´s hanbok consist of a jacket chima and wrap around skirt. It is called jegorio. Men´s hanbok consist in a bagi. Also, I learned about Chinese New Year. This holiday is celebrated according January or February. It is a religion festival. They don´t eat, smoke, drink, have sexual relation during 29 or 30 days. Also, they don´t clean the house during 15 days to bring good luck. As a result, these important dates I learned from my classmates, teacher, book and web pages that researched. The second topic is about grammar. This grammar was about adjective clause with subject and object relative pronouns. We use adjective clause to identify or give information about a noun. The three important relative pronouns are.: who, that and which. Who especially used for people, that is used for things and people but, it is informal way for people, and which is used only for things. For example, the women who called you is here. Flowers and Fruit Festival is a holiday that takes place in February. Also, we use an object relative pronouns when who (m) takes the place of the object noun a clause. For example, the woman whom you called is here. In addition, l learned if the relative pronoun is followed by a verb the relative pronoun is the subject of the clause. It cannot be deleted. For example, the guy whom showed us his car appears to be honest. And, if the relative pronoun is followed by a subject noun-pronoun is followed by a subject noun-pronoun it can be omitted. For example, the guy who we spoke to appears to be honest. As a result, I have learned more about this grammar from teacher, book and web pages.http://www.grammar-quizzes.com/clauses-2.html . The third topic is about wedding traditions. In this part l learned about Hindu tradition and new vocabulary. For example, a traditional Hindu wedding is more than five days. The wedding date is chosen based on the date the born birthday the bride. Musicians visit the groom´s home and play traditional music. The groom´s relative wash the groom with coconut or olive oil to bring good luck for the newlyweds. And the bride´s relatives paint her face, arm, hands and feet red colors. These thing I learned from the book. Everything I have learned are interesting and useful.
