Unit 6

DISASTERS AND EMERGENCIES
What did you learn?
In this unit I learned four lessons in which each unit has grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing. This unit was based in Indirect Speech or Reported Speech grammar. I used reported speech when I reported what someone said without exact words. In Indirect Speech an imperative becomes an infinitive. In Indirect Speech you can make changes in pronouns and time expressions to preserve the speaker’s original meaning, too. For example, she told me, “Call me tomorrow” (DIRECT SPEECH). She told me to call her for the next day (INDIRECT SPEECH). I studied the use of say and tell in Indirect Speech. I used tell when I mentioned the listener, and I used say when I didn´t mention the listener. I learned how I can make questions, too. I learned a new vocabulary in which I could create possible excuses and possible excuses and possible messages when I busy. Also, I learned about Natural Disasters. It can cause a lot of property damage. How can I be prepared for an Emergency? Also, I wrote a paragraph related Ambato Earthquake. For example, to make this paragraph I researched some information on the internet. As a result, I learned new activities that were a little difficult.
How did you learn it?
Activities that I learned in this unit were from teacher´s explanation and handouts, classmates and the internet. For example, I did a paragraph related Tungurahua Volcano Eruption. It helped me to get more knowledge about it. Also, teacher gave us extra handouts in which I practiced more exercise related Indirect Speech grammar. I checked in the internet due to I was a little confuse.  I learned how to be prepared for an emergency? For this job I worked in group of 3 students in which I discussed about emergency supplies, good and reason. As a conclusion, everything that I learned from this unit was very interesting because I learned new vocabulary, grammar and earthquake origins.
How are you going to apply it?
Everything that I learned such as: Indirect Speech grammar, adjectives for describing disasters among others. I´m going to apply it to report what someone said without exact words. This grammar is easy to use due to you don´t need to memorize everything that other said. I´m going to apply this vocabulary to describe Natural Disasters that every day are caused. Also, information researched I´m going to share with my classmates due to I got good information about it. As a conclusion, I´m going to apply everything that I learned in my future.

  1. Well, I agree with you in that the best way to learn something is through practicing. As you said, we don't need to memorize everything that other said. We can report it with our own words, using indirect speech. Your learning log is really interesting and useful for us. Just one thing, you forgot to include links in your log.
